Still one of the best co-op RPGs to hit the market in a long while, but its of a different genre than you're thinking. experience/level could be adjusted to that of the other main character, but still, the game just isn't built for that kind of play. Inventory, armor, weapons, buffs/debuffs based on quest choices. Even if you could just dismiss an AI companion for a player to jump in, the game couldn't really transfer anything but the character's looks without affecting the balance of that save. It just wouldn't work without a major overhaul of core concepts. Enemies don't scale to level or anything, so at level 9 you can potentially run into a level 15 area and fight enemies that simply one shot you and can't be hurt very effectively in return (I've done that exact scenario and won, but it isn't common or recommended). Reason being, each playthrough has too many different items, gold, enemies and such that are kept in limited supply to an extent to help keep things balanced. it is all saved into that one save file.ĭon't get me wrong, it is a fantastic game especially co-op (up to 4 players), but its the kind of game where you'll both have to be online and sit down for a session. Gear, level, inventories, quest progression. Whoever hosted can load up and play that save solo, but the other player's character will be a companion until that player joins again. You make your characters together from the very start of the game, and those characters cannot leave that save. So you'd generally know everyone you're playing with from the start and progress only together. It plays like a tabletop RPG like D&D for instance. is the multiplayer only good for people that already know what they are doing and don't mind doing so with a character they essentially can't keep when joining up with a friend? No. This game sounds like it is not like that. but our own characters progress and save locally and we can resume our own game where we left off-with new loot and level progression. if we find someone random on the internet, we proceedd with that quest. Like say borderlands, where if I host, we proceed in my quest. I think I assumed it would allow level progression across saves like if I was in his game or he in mine.
